The Shawn Funk School of Art and Music is a vision Shawn had for the city of Newell and the neighboring northern hills communities. It was always his dream to share his talents with those of us around him. Now that Shawn has continued his journey on, the Board and Annie have made it their mission to make his dream become a reality. Our grand opening is tentatively set for Summer of 2010, but that is up to our contributors and volunteers. With continued support from generous people who relate to our mission his school will be a part of the Newell, SD community long after we join Shawn on our next journey.

The Shawn Funk School of Art and Music will provide the community with what is being taken away from our children in schools around the country. It will provide children of all ages an opportunity they may otherwise never have, art and music classes. The school will be a way for teens and children in our community to continue their education in those areas that are quickly disappearing from our schools. The school will provide the community with these experiences at no cost.
